Celtic Colours tickled pink by nomination

SYDNEY —
With just days to go until the first performers hit the
Celtic Colours stage, the festival has been nominated for a
national tourism award.
Earlier
this week, the Tourism Industry Association of Canada
released its list of finalists for 13 awards, which included
the Celtic Colours International Festival in the event of
the year category. Its competition for the award are an agri-food
festival in Ville-Marie, Que. and a music festival at Fort
William Historical Park in Ontario.
The
winners will be announced at a gala dinner Oct. 23 in
Jasper, Alta.
This is
the first time Celtic Colours has been nominated by this
organization and festival co-director Max MacDonald said any
recognition for the Cape Breton event is welcomed.
“The fact
that a national organization has short-listed us as one of
the three top events in the country, that’s great,” he said.
“It’s almost hard to think about it because we’re so in the
middle of the final preparations for the festival but it
does give a boost. It gives a boost for all the volunteers
and hopefully for the community, this type of national
recognition.”
The 10th
edition of the Celtic Colours Festival begins Oct. 6 and
after months of planning, MacDonald said all that’s really
left to do is those final last-minute details.
“We’re
just so ready. We just want to hear some music,” he said.
The annual
nine-day festival celebrates Celtic music and culture with
concerts, workshops and special events in communities across
Cape Breton. Celtic Colours draws performers from around the
world.
